Collections with their own guides

Spaceship Parts appear after Omega’s mission “Far Out”, which Franklin unlocks after “Fame or Shame”. All 50 unlock the mission “The Final Frontier”. All 50 spaceship parts.

Letter Scraps are pieces of a confession by the killer of actress Leonora Johnson. You can hunt for them from Franklin’s first missions. All 50 letter scraps.

Peyote Plants turn the protagonist into a random animal. 21 of them earn Cryptozoologist, and after all 27 you can look for the golden peyote and become Sasquatch. All 27 peyotes and the golden peyote.

Stunt Jumps. 40 of the 50 ramps are in Los Santos; a motorbike with Franklin is the easiest way to clear them. All 50 stunt jumps.

Under the Bridge flights are done by helicopter or plane without touching the bridge. All 50 bridges.

Knife Flights go between Los Santos buildings in a plane tipped on its side. A helicopter won’t count. All 15 Knife Flights.

Nuclear Waste: 30 barrels of nuclear waste

The hunt unlocks after you buy Sonar Collections Dock for $250,000 and complete The Merryweather Heist. Michael buys the dock (according to most sources). You search for the barrels in a submersible (Submersible) with the Trackify app. It only shows the direction, not the distance.

Any of the three can search, but the money goes to the dock owner: $23,000 per barrel and $250,000 for all of them. That's $940,000 in total. Collecting all 30 earns the Waste Management achievement. Not needed for 100%.

Submarine Pieces: Abigail's quest

30 parts of a mini submarine for Abigail Mathers from the Strangers and Freaks line. The quest consists of the missions Death at Sea and What Lies Beneath, and you need Sonar Collections Dock for the search. Anyone can collect the pieces, but only Michael hands them in.

Reward: $10 and a signed photo of Frank Mathers. At the end, you decide whether to kill Abigail or let her go. There's no achievement, and it isn't needed for 100%.

Epsilon Tracts: 10 tracts

Michael looks for the tracts using Marnie's hints after the mission Unknowing the Truth, whatever choice you make in it. Only one tract is available at a time, in a fixed order. The reward is a congratulations letter and a link to the full text. There's no achievement for the tracts: Kifflom! is awarded for finishing the Epsilon missions.

Hidden Packages: briefcases of cash

11 briefcases lie underwater near sunken ships and planes; you usually need diving gear. Each gives $7,000 to $25,000. Another 4 briefcases appear at Altruist Camp after Trevor's random event (Altruist Cult Shootout), $25,000 each. Anyone can collect them, and they aren't needed for 100%.

Monkey Mosaics and Wildlife Photography

Monkey Mosaics. You need to photograph 50 monkey mosaics with your phone. Anyone can take the photos, and Franklin gets a text from Lamar about them early in the story. The reward is the Space Monkey outfit for Trevor. Players who transferred progress from PS3 or Xbox 360 also get a random event with the artist and the Go Go Monkey Blista car.

Wildlife Photography Challenge. Franklin photographs 20 animals after the first paparazzo mission for Beverly. The shots go to the LS Tourist Board via Snapmatic. For all 20, the Kraken submersible appears at the Cape Catfish pier, and you can buy it.

For Sale Signs and Murder Mystery

For Sale Signs. Trevor destroys realtor Lenny Avery’s 15 “For Sale” signs in Josh Bernstein’s task Extra Commission from the Strangers and Freaks line. Josh texts a link to Lenny’s website with a map of all 15 addresses. A sign can be knocked down with a car, a gunshot or an explosion. Once all 15 are gone, Josh invites Trevor to a motel and the mission Closing the Deal unlocks. The signs pay no money and are not needed for 100% (according to GTABoss and GTA Fandom).

Murder Mystery. A hidden detective story for Michael only, added in the updated version of the game. First Michael finds four messages carved on walls: by the Gentry Manor Hotel pool, at the Galileo Observatory, at City Hall in Alta and next to the Oriental Theater. Then comes a body on the seabed off the coast by Fort Zancudo. These five clues can be found in any order. After the mission Meltdown, Michael reads Fred Quincy’s letter in Solomon Richards’ office at Richards Majestic (per GTA Fandom, the office is open from 21:00 to 06:00). The last stop is a boarded-up mine in Great Chaparral: the door has to be blown open. The reward is two noir filters for Snapmatic and the whole screen, and Isaac is added to your contacts to switch them on. Not needed for 100%. GTABoss counts seven clues, while GTA Fandom splits the same route into four messages and three later steps.

Which collections are on which version

Four collections are flagged by guides as exclusive to the updated version (PS4, Xbox One, PC and newer).

CollectionAvailable on
Peyote PlantsUpdated version: PS4, Xbox One, PC (Legacy), PS5, Xbox Series. Not on PS3 and Xbox 360
Monkey MosaicsUpdated version only
Wildlife PhotographyUpdated version only, and only for players who transferred progress from PS3 or Xbox 360
Go Go Monkey Blista (Monkey Mosaics bonus)Only for players with transferred progress
Murder MysteryUpdated version only. According to GTA Fandom, until 2021 it was only for players who transferred progress from PS3 or Xbox 360

The GTA 5 platforms page explains how the game versions differ.

What order to collect in

  • From the start of the game, go for letter scraps and stunt jumps: they're available right away.
  • After "Fame or Shame", unlock "Far Out" as Franklin so the spaceship parts start appearing.
  • Once you have a plane and a helicopter, clear the bridges and Knife Flights. The P-996 LAZER fighter jet from Fort Zancudo is the best fit for Knife Flights.
  • After The Merryweather Heist, buy Sonar Collections Dock and collect the barrels and submarine pieces.
  • At the end, leave the golden peyote: most guides say it requires 100%.

To avoid getting lost, keep the GTA 5 map handy, and pick your vehicle in the GTA 5 vehicles section.

GTA 5 collectibles FAQ

What collectibles are in GTA 5?

The story has 14 collections: Spaceship Parts, Letter Scraps, Peyote Plants, Stunt Jumps, Under the Bridge, Knife Flights, Nuclear Waste, Submarine Pieces, Epsilon Tracts, Hidden Packages, Monkey Mosaics, Wildlife Photography, For Sale Signs and Murder Mystery.

Which collectibles do you need for 100% in GTA 5?

All 50 Spaceship Parts, all 50 Letter Scraps, 25 Stunt Jumps, 25 Under the Bridge flights and 8 Knife Flights. The other collections don't affect the percentage.

Which collection pays the most?

Nuclear Waste: $23,000 for each of the 30 barrels and $250,000 for all of them, $940,000 in total. But first you have to buy Sonar Collections Dock for $250,000.

Are there collectibles on PS3 and Xbox 360?

Yes, except peyote, Monkey Mosaics, Wildlife Photography and Murder Mystery: these are only in the updated version.

Are collectibles shown on the map?

Mostly not. Stunt jumps and letter scraps aren't marked on the in-game map, and no guide mentions markers for spaceship parts. Use our tables to find them.

Which characters can collect?

For most collections, any of the three. But some missions are played by one character only: "Far Out" and "A Starlet in Vinewood" by Franklin. Epsilon Tracts unlock for Michael, and only he hands in the submarine pieces.
