RDR2 system requirements: a GTX 770 and 8 GB at minimum, plus 150 GB of storage

Rockstar hasn't changed the RDR2 system requirements since the PC version came out in 2019. Below is the data from the game's Steam page as of October 31, 2026.

Both tiers require a 64-bit processor and operating system. Rockstar doesn't say what resolution and frame rate these configurations target, so treat them as a floor. For high settings at 1440p or 4K you'll need a graphics card noticeably newer than the recommended one.

On PC, 150 GB of free space, ideally on an SSD: on a hard drive, scenes load more slowly and textures pop in later in towns. Leave headroom for updates.

For consoles, the PlayStation Store and Xbox listings don't state a size as of October 31, 2026. A rough guide is Rockstar's older statement about standalone Red Dead Online: "up to 123 GB" on console (2020). Full RDR2 with Story Mode most likely takes more.

Valve rates RDR2 as Playable, meaning the game works but with caveats. According to the Steam compatibility report:

• the default control scheme works fully, and the button icons match Steam Deck;
• Valve considers performance at default settings acceptable;
• it requires interacting with Rockstar Games Launcher, which is awkward on Deck;
• some text is hard to read on the small screen;
• the first launch needs an internet connection; without one the game won't start the first time.

Tip: do the first launch and Rockstar account sign-in at home on Wi-Fi, then play as usual.

There's no native RDR2 version for PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. Current consoles run the PS4 and Xbox One version through backward compatibility. Rockstar never released an official 60 fps patch, so on PS5 the game stays capped at 30 fps, as fan site rdr2.org wrote in May 2026. Unofficial "60 FPS patches" for PS5 require a jailbroken console, which breaks Sony's rules and puts your account at risk.

Rumors of an "Enhanced" version for PS5, Xbox Series and Switch 2 have circulated since 2024, but insiders contradict each other and Rockstar hasn't announced anything. There is a precedent: the first Red Dead Redemption got PS5, Xbox Series and Switch 2 versions in December 2025 with a free upgrade.

For laptops, use the same table with an adjustment: mobile GPUs are weaker than desktop cards with the same name, and heat lowers clock speeds in long sessions. The requirements only list dedicated graphics cards; integrated graphics aren't mentioned. Before buying, compare your GPU with a GTX 1060 6 GB: if it's noticeably weaker, expect low settings.
