Which version to choose
The original port is cheaper and lighter. It's the same 2004 San Andreas with graphics tuned for phones: in the store description Rockstar lists improved lighting, a richer color palette and new character models, support for Made for iOS controllers, cloud saves through Rockstar Social Club and three control schemes. It promises more than 70 hours of play.
San Andreas – Definitive is the mobile version of the 2021 remaster, with new Unreal Engine graphics. It costs more, needs a newer phone (iOS 16 or later on iPhone) and has all the Definitive Edition changes, including a different set of cheats. If your phone is old, the original port is the safer choice.
The most accurate check for Android compatibility is the game's own Google Play page: if your phone isn't supported, there's no buy button.
Netflix no longer offers San Andreas
In December 2023 all three Definitive trilogy games arrived on Netflix Games, and subscribers played at no extra cost. That's over. GTA III and Vice City were removed after December 13, 2024, and San Andreas on December 12, 2025 (Netflix added Red Dead Redemption in its place). Saves from the Netflix version don't carry over to the paid store version.
So articles and videos that still say "GTA San Andreas free on Netflix" are out of date. Today San Andreas on mobile is a paid purchase on the App Store or Google Play only.
How to enter cheats on mobile
San Andreas – Definitive. Tap the map, open Options, go to the Accessibility tab and press the Enter Cheat Code button under Color Blind Mode. Then type PC codes, such as HESOYAM. With a controller connected, the console button combos work too. Cheats disable achievements, so save to a separate slot first.
The original 2013 port. There's no cheat menu: you type the codes on a physical keyboard connected to the phone. Most PC codes work. All the codes are on the GTA San Andreas cheats page.
Fakes: APKs, "full versions" and "free San Andreas"
Rockstar releases mobile San Andreas only through the App Store and Google Play. Everything else, like "GTA San Andreas APK + OBB" files, "modded versions" or "unlimited money" builds, is repackaged by third parties. Such files can contain malware and adware, ask for unnecessary permissions, and the game in them never updates. Worth knowing as well: GTA 5 doesn't officially exist on mobile, so any "GTA 5 APK" is a guaranteed fake (more on the GTA 5 page).
How to spot the real game: the publisher in the store is Rockstar Games, the price matches the table above, and it has lots of downloads and reviews.
Language and controllers
The voice acting is in English, so English speakers get the game exactly as it was recorded. The original port's App Store listing also names text languages including French, Italian, German, Spanish and Japanese.
The original port supports physical controllers (Made for iOS controllers on iPhone). If driving or flying on a touchscreen feels clumsy, a controller helps a lot.
