Midnight Club: the games in the series and where you can still play them in 2026

Midnight Club is arcade-style illegal street racing through the night streets of big cities. Instead of closed tracks you get an open city where you can find your own shortcut, and your rivals are street racers just like you. From 2000 the series was made by Angel Studios, which became Rockstar San Diego, the studio that later made Red Dead Redemption.

Each new entry added more cities, cars and tuning. Midnight Club 3 teamed up with the tuning magazine DUB and brought licensed cars with customization, and Midnight Club: Los Angeles got one big city with a day-night cycle. According to press reports, plans for a new entry were frozen in early 2010, the team was gradually broken up, and the series went quiet.

The short answer: barely. Because of car and music licenses, the games in the series dropped out of digital stores one after another.

Xbox backward compatibility. Since June 7, 2018, Xbox One has supported the Midnight Club: Los Angeles and Complete Edition discs, as well as the digital Xbox 360 version. In October 2018 the game was pulled from stores, but on April 27, 2021 the Xbox version went back on sale. We didn't find Midnight Club II or Midnight Club 3 on the Xbox backward compatibility list.

PlayStation. PS3 once sold PS2 Classics (Street Racing, Midnight Club II, Midnight Club 3 Remix), but there is nothing from the series on PS4 or PS5. The legal route on PlayStation is the original PS2 or PS3 discs.

Outside the US, availability in your regional Xbox Store may differ. A simple legal option anywhere is the Xbox 360 disc, which runs on Xbox One and Series.

On May 31, 2014, the GameSpy service shut down, and with it the multiplayer of Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition (all versions) and the PS3 version of Los Angeles, along with track sharing and car photo features. The Xbox 360 version of Los Angeles ran on Xbox Live at the time; we haven't checked whether its servers are still up today. Single-player careers in every game work without an internet connection.

"Midnight Club money cheats" is a very popular search, but the answer will disappoint you:

• Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition. The Cheats menu has codes like ontheroad (no car damage) and roadtrip (all cities in Arcade mode). There is no code for big money: the known code kubmir adds just $1, and even that comes from a single source.
• Midnight Club II. Codes are entered in Options → Cheat Codes and are case-sensitive: immortal (no damage), greenLantern (unlimited nitrous), Globetrotter (all cities). There is no money code. The PC codes are different.
• Midnight Club: Los Angeles. There is no code entry at all. Cheats unlock for finding Rockstar barrels hidden around the city (one cheat per 10), and unlimited money unlocks after you finish the career. Turning on a cheat blocks career progress.

Programs and "codes" promising millions in Los Angeles don't work, at best.

Officially, no: Rockstar has not announced Midnight Club 5 or a reboot. The only recent official mention came in January 2022, when Take-Two, while acquiring Zynga, listed Midnight Club among franchises with potential on mobile. There has been no news since.

Former Rockstar designer Chris Roberts said in 2026 that a fifth entry had been in development and was canceled. That is one person's account, and Rockstar has not commented. The "release dates" for a new Midnight Club circulating online have no primary sources. For now, the closest thing to Rockstar street racing is the tuning and racing in GTA Online and the upcoming GTA 6.
