GTA 4 in 2026: where to play it, what it costs and whether it is coming to PS5

• GTA 4 cheats: every phone number
• GTA 5 and GTA 6, the next games in the series

GTA 4 runs on the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE) with Euphoria animation technology. The lead is Niko Bellic, a war veteran from Eastern Europe who arrives in Liberty City to join his cousin Roman. The city is modeled on New York. Niko is voiced by Michael Hollick.

It became one of the most successful games in the series: 3.6 million copies sold in the first 24 hours, and 25 million by July 2013, according to Take-Two. Metacritic: 98 for the console versions and 90 for PC.

GTA 4 got two large expansions with their own leads in the same city: The Lost and Damned (February 17, 2009, first on Xbox 360), about a biker club and its member Johnny, and The Ballad of Gay Tony (October 29, 2009), starring Luis. On PS3 and PC both arrived as the Episodes from Liberty City collection on April 13, 2010 (North America). Steam no longer sells the collection on its own: it is part of the Complete Edition.

US regular prices as of October 31, 2026; GTA 4 was not on sale on Steam that day.

In March 2020 Rockstar replaced both old Steam versions (GTA IV and Episodes from Liberty City) with a single one, The Complete Edition (March 24, 2020). At the same time Games for Windows Live was removed from the game, and with it multiplayer and leaderboards. Three radio stations disappeared over licensing: RamJam FM, Self-Actualization FM and Vice City FM. The story and both episodes are fully intact.

GTA 4 multiplayer on PC once supported up to 32 players; it has not worked on PC since 2020.

PlayStation. GTA 4 exists only on PS3. PlayStation Store does not sell it for PS4 or PS5, and PS5 has no PS3 backward compatibility. Rockstar has not announced a PS5 port. In 2025 the insider Tez2 claimed a port was in the works, but it was never confirmed; headlines like "GTA 4 is out on PS5" are false.

Xbox. This one is easier: the Xbox 360 version officially runs on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. It costs $19.99 on the Xbox Store.

Steam lists no recommended specs. On paper GTA 4 will start on very old hardware, but players have long criticized the 2008 PC port's optimization, so some headroom helps.

The community fixes part of the problems with the fan patch FusionFix (by ThirteenAG). According to the project's description, it fully supports only The Complete Edition and adds field of view settings, a frame limiter, anti-aliasing, shader fixes and fixes for frame-rate-related bugs. It is an unofficial mod: back up the game folder before installing it.

Voice acting is English only, so English speakers play the game exactly as it was recorded. Subtitles and menus are also available in French, Italian, German and Spanish.

In GTA 4, cheats are entered as phone numbers on Niko's cell phone: 482-555-0100 for health, armor and ammo, 267-555-0100 to clear your wanted level. There is no money cheat. All 31 numbers, including the episodes, are on the GTA 4 cheats page.
