Every collectible in Red Dead Redemption 2: dinosaur bones, dreamcatchers, rock carvings, cigarette cards, legendary animals and fish. How many there are, who to hand them to and what 100% completion requires.
What collectibles RDR2 has
RDR2 collectibles are spread across all five states. Some aren't marked on the map at all, so you find them through hints, Eagle Eye or plain exploration. Most collections are tied to Strangers: they ask you to find a set number of items and pay you for the result.
| Category | How many | Who takes them / what you get | Needed for 100%? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dinosaur Bones | 30 | Stranger questline "A Test of Faith" | Yes, all of them |
| Dreamcatchers | 20 | No dedicated quest giver | Yes, all 20 |
| Rock Carvings | 10 | Questline "Geology for Beginners" | Yes (quest) |
| Cigarette Cards | 144 (12 sets × 12) | Found in cigarette packs and around the world | One complete set is enough |
| Legendary animals | 16 | Pelts go to the Trapper for clothing | 5 are enough |
| Legendary fish | 13 (14 in some guides) | Questline "A Fisher of Fish" | Yes (quest) |
| Family Heirlooms and other valuables | 15 heirlooms, per the wiki | Sold to fences | No |
| Exotics | A request list | Questline "Duchesses and other Animals" | Yes (quest) |
| Treasure maps | Several chains | Gold bars and valuables | One chain is enough |
Counts come from Red Dead Wiki. Rockstar doesn't publish official collectible lists, so guides sometimes disagree: legendary fish, for example, are counted as 13 or 14 depending on whether the catfish from a separate errand is included.
Dinosaur bones and rock carvings
The 30 dinosaur bones are collected for the paleontologist from the Stranger questline "A Test of Faith". The bones are scattered across the map, and the questline only counts toward 100% once all of them are found.
The 10 rock carvings are part of the "Geology for Beginners" questline. They are small and hidden on cliffs, so they're easy to miss without hints.
Dreamcatchers and cigarette cards
The 20 dreamcatchers hang in trees in different parts of the map. There's no quest giver for them, but 100% needs all twenty.
Cigarette cards come in 12 themed sets of 12 cards (144 in total). You find them in cigarette packs, bought in stores or found in houses. One complete set is enough for 100%.
Legendary animals and fish
The story has 16 legendary animals and 13 legendary fish. Legendary animals always give a perfect pelt, and the Trapper makes clothing from them. The last three animals only appear in the Epilogue, in New Austin. Where to find each one is in the table on the RDR2 map page.
The fish are caught in the "A Fisher of Fish" questline.
What 100% completion in RDR2 requires
Your completion progress is in the menu: Pause → Progress → Total Completion. The list is long; here are the essentials, per Red Dead Wiki:
| Section | What's required (per the wiki) |
|---|---|
| Story | All 107 required story missions |
| Strangers and events | 10 Stranger questlines, 5 bounty hunting missions, 25 random events, 6 gang hideouts |
| Collecting | All 20 dreamcatchers, 1 complete cigarette card set, 1 treasure map chain; the quests "A Test of Faith", "A Fisher of Fish", "Duchesses and other Animals", "Geology for Beginners", "A Better World, A New Friend" |
| Compendium | 50 animals, 10 fish, 10 horse breeds, 20 plants, 48 weapons, 6 gangs |
| Character and horse | Health, Stamina and Dead Eye cores at level 10; horse bond at level 4 |
| Challenges | All 90 challenges; 5 legendary animals |
| Leisure and crime | Rob a house, a store, a coach and a train; take a bath, watch a show, go to the theater and other activities |
| Post-story | 9 graves of fallen gang members |
The key thing to know in advance: some requirements, like the graves and the New Austin legendary animals, only open up after the story, so 100% gets finished in and after the Epilogue. Cheats won't help: with a cheat active the game doesn't save progress or award trophies. Details on the RDR2 cheats page.
What 100% gets you
The reward is the "Best in the West" trophy on PlayStation or achievement on Xbox and PC, plus a short cutscene. It's more of a wrap-up for players who want to see the whole world.
Chapter and mission order is on the RDR2 missions page, and horses for a level 4 bond are on the RDR2 horses page. Everything about the game is on the Red Dead Redemption 2 page.
