What's officially known for each console
As of November 5, 2026, Rockstar hasn't published technical specs for GTA 6. All we have are labels and descriptions on the PlayStation and Xbox storefronts:
| Console | What's officially stated | What isn't stated |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, the controller speaker, Tempest 3D Audio, fast loading from the SSD, Remote Play (playstation.com) | resolution, frame rate, graphics modes |
| PlayStation 5 Pro | the "PS5 Pro Enhanced" label (PlayStation Store) | what exactly is improved |
| Xbox Series X | "Optimized for Xbox Series X|S", Xbox achievements, cloud saves (Xbox Store) | resolution, frame rate, graphics modes |
| Xbox Series S | the same "Optimized for Xbox Series X|S" label | resolution and frame rate specifically for Series S |
Neither Rockstar nor the storefronts list HDR, 4K or ray tracing support. So promises like "4K/60 on PS5 Pro" have nothing to back them up for now. More about the consoles on the GTA 6 platforms page.
30 or 60 fps
The only source is Rob Nelson of Rockstar North in an interview with Flow Games, as reported by Push Square and Inven Global: at the current stage of development the console version runs at 30 fps, and a decision on a 60 fps mode before launch hasn't been made yet.
That's the state of things as of August 2026, not a final spec. Rockstar hasn't published a separate post about the frame rate, and since then a 60 fps mode has been neither confirmed nor ruled out.
For reference, here's how Rockstar's previous games worked on the new consoles:
| Game | PS5 and Xbox Series |
|---|---|
| GTA 5 (2022 version) | three modes: Fidelity, up to 4K with ray tracing at 30 fps; Performance, 60 fps; Performance RT, 60 fps with ray tracing, except on Series S |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | no native version; on PS5 the PS4 version runs, capped at 30 fps; Rockstar never released an official 60 fps patch |
| GTA 6 | 30 fps at the current stage, according to Nelson; no other modes announced |
So Rockstar has done it both ways before. A comparison of the graphics and technology of the two GTAs is on the GTA 6 vs GTA 5 page.
PS5 Pro: what "PS5 Pro Enhanced" means
On PlayStation Store and on the game's page at playstation.com, GTA 6 carries the PS5 Pro Enhanced label, meaning the game will get specific improvements on the more powerful console. What exactly will be improved, whether resolution, frame stability, ray tracing or something else, neither Rockstar nor Sony has revealed.
You don't need a PS5 Pro for GTA 6: the game runs on a standard PS5. Whether it's worth it will become clear on November 19, when we compare both versions.
Xbox Series S: what we know
Xbox Series S is on the official platform list, and on Xbox Store the game is labeled "Optimized for Xbox Series X|S" for both consoles. Rockstar hasn't announced any specific limitations for Series S, but it hasn't said what resolution and frame rate the game will run at on it either.
The practical issue for Series S is storage. GTA 6 takes up up to 212 GB depending on your device (Rockstar Newswire, November 3), and the console reserves part of its built-in storage for the system. You can't run the game from a USB drive: "Optimized for Xbox Series X|S" games only run from the internal SSD or an expansion card. How to free up space is on the GTA 6 file size page.
TV and console settings to sort out before November 19
These are general console and TV settings: they work with any game and don't depend on which modes GTA 6 will have.
- Your TV's Game Mode. It turns off some of the picture processing and reduces the delay between pressing a button and the reaction on screen. Many TVs switch it on automatically when they detect a console.
- HDR. Whether GTA 6 supports HDR hasn't been officially stated, but it's worth setting it up in advance. PS5: Settings → Screen and Video → Video Output → Adjust HDR. Xbox: Settings → General → TV & display options → Calibrate HDR for games.
- VRR (variable refresh rate). It smooths the picture when the frame rate fluctuates. At a stable 30 fps the benefit is small, because most TVs only engage VRR above a certain frame rate. PS5: Screen and Video → Video Output → VRR. Xbox: TV & display options → Video modes → Allow variable refresh rate.
- Game presets on PS5. Under Saved Data and Game/App Settings → Game Presets you can choose Performance Mode or Resolution Mode as the default. It only applies in games that support that choice; whether GTA 6 will respect it is unknown.
- DualSense. Vibration intensity and trigger effect intensity are set under Settings → Accessories → Controllers, which helps if the adaptive triggers tire you out in long sessions.
- Sound. According to Sony, GTA 6 supports Tempest 3D Audio; on PS5, 3D audio for headphones is turned on under Settings → Sound → Audio Output.
Menu item names may differ slightly depending on your language and system software version. Before November 10, when pre-loading starts, update your console's system software to the latest version.
