RedM: how to play RP on Red Dead Redemption 2 servers

RedM is a modification for Red Dead Redemption 2 that lets you play together on separate servers with their own rules. It is made by the same Cfx.re team behind FiveM for GTA V. On August 11, 2023 Rockstar announced that Cfx.re had officially become part of Rockstar Games; the official RedM website now states that RedM is a trademark of Take-Two Interactive.

RedM servers are mostly about RP: you create a Wild West character, a sheriff, farmer, doctor, hunter or outlaw, and live their life among other players. There are no Rockstar story missions here: events are driven by the players and the server's admins.

Rockstar's Mod Guidelines (updated September 10, 2026) allow multiplayer mods only through the official Cfx.re platform, so RedM is the legal way to play on RDR2 roleplay servers.

Your character, money and property from Red Dead Online do not carry over to RedM servers.

• A legit copy of Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC from Steam, Epic Games Store or the Rockstar Games Launcher. The US price on Steam is $59.99 for the standard edition (October 31, 2026). More: RDR2 prices.
• A PC that can run RDR2. The official minimum on Steam: Windows 10 64-bit, Core i5-2500K or FX-6300, 8 GB RAM, GTX 770 2 GB or Radeon R9 280 3 GB, 150 GB of storage. Big RP servers put more load on your system than the story mode. Full specs: RDR2 system requirements.
• The free RedM client, only from the official site, redm.net.
• A mic and Discord: most servers play by voice and take applications on Discord.

1. Install RDR2 on PC and launch it at least once without mods to make sure the game works.
2. Download the RedM client from redm.net.
3. Open the server list in the client and filter it by language and player count.
4. Read the rules of the server you picked. If it has a whitelist (allowlist), apply in its Discord and wait for approval.
5. Create a character with a believable name and backstory: serious servers check this.

You do not need separate "RedM packs", launchers or modpacks: the client downloads the server files itself. Programs from unofficial sites promising "skip the queue" or "RP cheats" are a typical way to spread malware.

Player counts come from the official Cfx.re list as of October 31, 2026, around 21:50 UTC. Dusty Tales RP is a Ukrainian-speaking server set in the Old America, with a wiki in Ukrainian; the project's Discord community had 1,904 members, according to Discord. More: Ukrainian GTA RP servers.

RedM has quite a few big English-, French- and Spanish-speaking servers with 150 to 450 players, but we have not yet confirmed with two independent sources where their teams are based, so they are not in the table. • Language: without it there is no RP, since people talk by voice.
• Style: serious RP with strict rules and an application, or a lighter format without a whitelist.
• Players at your hours: RedM servers are smaller than GTA servers, so a server that is empty when you play is boring.
• Donations: check what is for sale, cosmetics or an in-game advantage.
• Rules: the basic RP terms (RDM, metagaming, NLR) are the same as in GTA RP; see our GTA RP guide.

• Get the client only from redm.net. Sites offering "RedM with mods", a "server launcher" or "RP cheats" may spread malware, and cheating gets you banned from the server.
• Donate only through the server's official store, linked from the project's website or Discord. A card transfer to an "admin" or a payment in private messages is a red flag.
• Do not buy accounts or whitelist spots from third-party sellers: the admins can ban both buyer and seller.
• Never give your Steam, Rockstar or Discord passwords to anyone who claims to be a moderator.
• Take the server address from the project's official channels: scammers clone popular servers under the same names.
