RDR2 100% completion: the story chapter by chapter, 10 Stranger lines, 90 challenges, the Compendium, 20 dreamcatchers, 5 legendary animals and everything else, with an interactive checklist that remembers your progress.
What you need for 100% in RDR2
Getting 100% in RDR2 means completing everything under Pause → Progress → Total Completion. Rockstar does not publish an official list, so the categories below come from the GTABase, PowerPyx and Gamepressure guides: their lists match and differ only in how they count story missions (Gamepressure and RDR2.org say 107).
| Section | What you need | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Story | every main mission in Chapters 1–6 and both epilogue parts | the last one is "American Venom"; according to GTABase, Honor missions are not required |
| Missions and events | 10 Stranger lines, 5 sheriff bounties, 25 Chance Encounters, 1 gang ambush, 6 gang hideouts | any 10 Stranger lines, but each one to the end |
| Collectibles | 20 dreamcatchers, 1 cigarette card set, 1 treasure map chain, 9 graves, 1 Point of Interest, plus the bone, fish, exotics, carvings and Hunting Request quests | graves only after the story |
| Compendium | 50 animals, 10 fish, 10 equipment items, 10 horse breeds, 20 plants, 48 weapons, 6 gangs | gangs are added automatically through the story |
| Arthur and horse | max Health, Stamina and Dead Eye, horse bond level 4 | bond level 4 is also needed for the Trusty Steed trophy |
| Challenges | all 90: 9 categories of 10 | the longest part |
| Miscellaneous | 5 shacks, 5 legendary animals, 4 table games, 5 ranters, a bath, a show, the theater, 6 recipes, 4 kinds of robbery | legendary animals: any 5 of 16 |
Almost nothing is missable for good: the game continues into the epilogue after the story, and some requirements, such as the graves, the New Austin hideouts and three legendary animals, only open up there.
Interactive RDR2 100% checklist
Tick things off as you go: progress is saved only in your browser, no sign-up needed. The story is split by chapter, as on the RDR2 missions page; multi-part missions (for example, "Pouring Forth Oil I–IV") are a single item. Because counting methods differ, the story total here is lower than the 107 in some guides, so check against the Progress menu. Collectibles and the Compendium are grouped, since the game counts the items itself. Challenges are numbered because each category unlocks them in order, from #1 to #10. For Strangers, bounties and legendary animals the game accepts any of them, so those are empty slots.

Route and tips
- Collectibles from Chapter 2. Dreamcatchers, dinosaur bones and rock carvings can be picked up during normal rides. Details are on the RDR2 collectibles page.
- Challenges alongside the story. Each category unlocks in order: #2 will not appear until #1 is done.
- Compendium on the way. Study animals through binoculars, pick plants and try different guns: you will reach 48 weapons naturally if you do not stick to one revolver.
- One horse for the bond. For level 4, stay with one horse, brush it and feed it. The RDR2 horses page helps you pick one.
- New Austin after the story. The epilogue opens Thieves’ Landing and Fort Mercer, three legendary animals and the 9 graves.
Cheats will not help here: with a cheat active the game does not save progress or award trophies. The full list of codes is on the RDR2 cheats page.
What 100% in RDR2 gets you
For 100% the game awards the "Best in the West" achievement or trophy and a short cutscene. You get no new weapons, horses or money: it is a milestone for players who want to see the whole world.
The Legend of the West platinum is a separate goal: it also requires Red Dead Online trophies. The full list is on the RDR2 achievements page.
RDR2 100% FAQ
What do you need to get 100% in RDR2?
All main story missions, 10 Stranger lines, 5 sheriff bounties, 25 Chance Encounters, 6 gang hideouts, collectibles (20 dreamcatchers, 30 bones, 10 carvings, 13 legendary fish, a card set), the Compendium, Arthur’s maxed-out cores, horse bond level 4, 90 challenges and a handful of small activities, from taking a bath to robbing a train.
Are Honor missions needed for 100%?
According to GTABase, no: optional Honor missions (for example, "Money Lending and Other Sins") do not count toward 100%. Only the main story missions count.
How many legendary animals do you need for 100%?
Any 5 of the 16. If you want the Trapper’s full set of clothing and the related achievements, you can hunt them all.
Can you permanently miss anything for 100%?
Most items are still available after the story: the epilogue opens New Austin, the graves of the fallen and the last gang hideouts, and completed missions can be replayed from the Progress menu. That is why most players finish 100% in the epilogue.
Where can you check your 100% progress in RDR2?
Pause → Progress → Total Completion. It also shows which sections are still incomplete.
What does 100% completion in RDR2 give you?
