What’s new in GTA Online
The latest major update is The Kortz Center Heist, a robbery of the Kortz Center museum. To launch it you need an Art Studio in your Mansion; you can go solo or with a crew of up to four players. With it, Rockstar changed how payouts work: the full bonus applies only to the first primary target you sell each week, and repeat runs pay less. The same rule now covers The Contract, The Cluckin’ Bell Farm Raid and Oscar Guzman Flies Again.
Smaller updates followed: new cars, races and a Halloween event that runs until November 4, 2026.

How to make money in GTA Online legitimately
- Kortz Center Heist once a week. The first primary target sold each week pays the most; according to guides, about GTA$1.9 million, and a repeat pays several times less.
- Rotate heists. The first-run-of-the-week bonus also applies to The Contract, The Cluckin’ Bell Farm Raid and Oscar Guzman Flies Again.
- Weekly bonuses. Every Thursday Rockstar doubles or triples payouts for selected modes and businesses, so keep an eye on them.
- Weekly challenges. In October 2026, completing all of them paid GTA$2 million.
- GTA+ gives subscribers GTA$500,000 every month.
What not to do. Car duplication glitches, “money drops” and money mods break Rockstar’s rules and lead to an account ban.
How much GTA Online costs
GTA Online comes with every copy of GTA 5, and on PS5 and Xbox Series it is also sold on its own: $19.99 in the US on PlayStation Store and Xbox Store. Right now it is half price, $9.99 (on PlayStation Store until November 5, 2026). We haven’t checked the UK price of the standalone version. On consoles you need a PS Plus or Game Pass (Essential, Premium or Ultimate) subscription to play online; on PC you don’t. GTA Online was free for PS Plus members only at the PS5 launch, from March 15 to June 14, 2022. The “Included” label on PlayStation Store now means access through GTA+.
Since June 18, 2026, owners of the PS4 version or the digital Xbox One version can move to PS5 / Xbox Series for free and carry over their progress; on PC, Legacy → Enhanced is free too.
GTA+ and Shark Cards
GTA+ is a subscription for $7.99 a month (US price on PlayStation Store and Steam). It gives GTA$500,000 every month, +15% GTA$ on Shark Cards, monthly bonuses, The Vinewood Club with a 100-car garage, and a library of Rockstar games (including Red Dead Redemption, the Trilogy, Bully and L.A. Noire). It works on PS5, Xbox Series and PC (Enhanced only).

What happens to GTA Online after GTA 6
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said in August 2026 that the company expects to keep supporting GTA Online, but gave no timeline. GTA 6 launches as a single-player game, there is no date for its online mode, and Rockstar has announced nothing about carrying over characters, cars or money. The end of support on PS4 and Xbox One hasn’t been announced either, although since late July 2026 those consoles no longer appear in the update notes. More on the GTA 6 Online page.

Is GTA Online free on PS5?
No. It was free only from March 15 to June 14, 2022. Now the standalone version costs $19.99 on the US PlayStation Store, and you need PS Plus to play.
