Are there cheats and codes in GTA Online?
GTA Online has no cheats or codes. The GTA 5 Story Mode codes for invincibility, weapons, vehicles and weather are entered as button combos or through the in-game phone, and they only work in the single-player campaign. Online, the cheat phone numbers do nothing and the button combos don't trigger. The Story Mode code list is on the GTA 5 cheats page.
There is no money cheat even in GTA 5 Story Mode. So any "GTA Online money cheat code" is either made up or an ad for third-party software.
What mod menus and "recoveries" are
Mod menus are third-party programs that hook into the game on PC and give you invincibility, teleports, money, cars or ways to grief other players. On consoles, the same thing is done with jailbroken consoles or "modded accounts".
Paid "money drops", "recoveries" and "account boosts" are services where someone with a mod menu pumps your money, rank, stats or rare cars. To Rockstar this is the same cheating, just done by someone else's hands. The risks:
- a ban or a reset: Rockstar can take away money and property or suspend the account, including the account of whoever received the "gift";
- losing the account: sellers often ask for your login and password;
- malware: "free" mod menus and "cheats" often carry viruses and steal passwords;
- payment scams: nobody will refund you for the service.
Why mod menus get you banned
Rockstar's terms of service prohibit third-party software that gives you an advantage online. The Mod Guidelines Rockstar updated on September 10, 2026 allow mods for single player only and specifically ban cheat menus in GTA Online; multiplayer mods are allowed only through the official licensed platforms (FiveM and RedM, see GTA RP).
On September 17, 2024 Rockstar added the BattlEye anti-cheat to GTA Online on PC: a kernel-level program that watches for suspicious activity. Because of it, GTA Online stopped launching on Steam Deck, while for Story Mode BattlEye can be turned off in the launch settings. Rockstar can remove illegitimately obtained GTA$ and property on any platform, not just PC.
Legit "cheats": what you can do without risk
Some of what players look for in cheats, GTA Online gives you officially. A GTA+ membership includes a police bribe that lowers your wanted level, off-radar mode, free taxis, access to the Gun Van and The Vinewood Club garage for 100 cars. Armored vehicles, Imani Tech and missile jammers protect you from other players without any third-party software; see GTA Online cars.
If you want invincibility, teleports and infinite ammo, play GTA 5 Story Mode with cheats or install single-player mods on PC after backing up your files. For multiplayer with mods, there are FiveM roleplay servers.
What to do if there's a cheater in your session
- Report the player from the pause menu: Players → profile → Report.
- Switch to a friends-only or invite-only session: most business missions and heists are available there.
- Don't accept money, cars or "ranks" from modders, even when they are handed out "for free".
- On PC, don't run files people send you in chats as "protection from modders".
