GTA 5 Enhanced and Legacy system requirements
GTA 5 system requirements on PC depend on the version. Since March 4, 2025, one purchase on Steam and Epic gets you two games: the updated Enhanced and the original 2015 Legacy. The requirements below come from the official Steam pages (checked 10/31/2026).

Note that Enhanced takes up less space than Legacy but will not run properly without an SSD. Both versions require a Rockstar Games account and Rockstar Games Launcher.
What Enhanced adds and who should pick Legacy
Enhanced is the updated PC version with technology the original never had: ray tracing (shadows, reflections, global illumination), NVIDIA DLSS 3, AMD FSR 1 and FSR 3, DirectStorage, Dolby Atmos audio and DualSense adaptive trigger support. If you have an RTX 3060-class graphics card and an SSD, go with it.
Legacy suits a low-end PC or an old laptop: its minimum requirements match very old computers. Another reason to pick Legacy is mods: most of them were made for the old version (more on the GTA 5 mods page).
Important for GTA Online: Legacy and Enhanced players are on separate servers and never end up in the same session.
How to run GTA 5 on a low-end PC
- Pick Legacy. It is undemanding and runs even on 4 GB of RAM. Enhanced is not worth it on old hardware without an SSD and a modern graphics card.
- Lower the heaviest settings first: shadow quality, reflections, MSAA, grass quality and "extended distance scaling".
- On Enhanced, turn on upscaling: DLSS on NVIDIA RTX cards or FSR on others. It raises the frame rate at a small cost in sharpness.
- Install the game on an SSD, even Legacy: loading times will be noticeably shorter.
- On a laptop, make sure the game runs on the dedicated graphics card, not the integrated one.
How big GTA 5 is on consoles
The PlayStation and Xbox stores do not show the game's size, so these are only press figures from when the 2022 versions came out; the size may have changed with updates.

GTA 5 on Steam Deck
In March 2025, Valve rated GTA 5 Enhanced on Steam Deck as "Playable" (not "Verified"). Story Mode runs on the Deck, but GTA Online does not: since September 2024, online play on PC has been protected by the BattlEye anti-cheat, which is not supported on Steam Deck. Do not try to work around this, as it risks an account ban. Check the current status on the game's Steam page: Valve may revise the rating.

On PC, 105 GB (Enhanced) or 125 GB (Legacy). On PS5 about 87 GB, on Xbox Series roughly 88–94 GB (unofficial 2022 figures).
Does GTA 5 need an SSD?
For Enhanced, yes, it is an official requirement. Legacy also runs on an HDD, but loading takes longer.
Does GTA 5 work on Steam Deck?
Enhanced Story Mode does: Valve rates the game "Playable". GTA Online does not work on Steam Deck because of the BattlEye anti-cheat.
