How to enter a cheat on Xbox
- Start Story Mode.
- Check that the cheat is not blocked. In some missions and areas the game replies “Cheat Denied”.
- Press the combo quickly, with no pauses. You can enter it during gameplay or in the pause menu.
Symbols in the tables: A, B, X, Y are the face buttons; LB, RB are the bumpers; LT, RT are the triggers.
Instead of buttons you can make a call: D-pad up → Contacts → X (opens the keypad) → number → call. “*” on the keypad repeats the last cheat. All numbers are on the GTA 5 phone numbers page.
Xbox One vs Xbox Series: what is different
What differs between Xbox 360, Xbox One and Xbox Series:
- The phone on Xbox 360. Sources disagree: GTABase says only buttons work on older consoles, PC Gamer says the numbers work on any system. On Xbox 360, buttons are the safer bet.
- Duke O’Death, Kraken and Dodo. They can only be spawned by phone and exist in the Xbox One and newer versions.
- Rockstar Editor. It was removed from Xbox One on February 20, 2024. There you open Director Mode through the Interaction Menu (hold the View button) or by dialing 1-999-5782-5368. On Xbox Series X|S the pause menu → Rockstar Editor → Director Mode route is still there too.

Xbox achievements and cheats
According to Rockstar Support, with a cheat on you can save, but achievements are temporarily disabled. According to the guides, only until the end of the current session: after restarting the game or loading a save, they unlock again.
Cheats do not affect 100% completion. There is one limit: in a mission with an active code you cannot get better than a bronze medal.
GTABase and GTA Boom advise saving to a separate slot before using cheats and never overwriting it. That way you can always go back to a cheat-free game.
The full achievement list is on the GTA 5 achievements page, and the plan for full completion is in the GTA 5 100% completion guide.
Why a cheat is not working on Xbox
- You are in GTA Online. Codes work only in Story Mode.
- Arrows on the stick. You need the D-pad.
- Pressing too slowly. The combo has to be entered quickly, with no pauses.
- Mixing up X. In PlayStation codes X means Cross, and on Xbox that is the A button. The X button on Xbox is a different one. Take the code from the Xbox column only.
- “Cheat Denied”. Cheats are blocked in this mission or area.
- Rapid GT. Try the version with a doubled RT at the start.
- Not enough room. Vehicles won’t spawn indoors, underground or in a cramped spot. Move to open ground and enter the code again.
If the buttons do not work, dial the number on the phone.
How to turn a cheat off on Xbox
Entering the same code again usually turns the cheat off, but, as Rockstar Support notes, not always. Loading a save or restarting the game is more reliable: it resets all cheats at once. Starting a mission also turns off cheats that were active outside it.
GTA 5 cheats on other platforms
All codes for every platform in one table are on the GTA 5 cheats page. By platform:
How the console and PC versions of the game differ is covered on the GTA 5 platforms page.

The biggest money in story mode comes from the stock market around Lester’s assassinations; other ways are in the how to make money in GTA 5 guide.
