How to make money in Red Dead Online in 2026 is a question about a game that lives without major updates. On July 7, 2022, Rockstar announced there would be no more major themed updates for RDO. The last big one was Blood Money (July 13, 2021). Since then the game has received monthly events with bonuses on existing modes, and on July 1, 2025, four new Telegram missions, Strange Tales of the West, arrived out of nowhere.

Servers are running on PS4, Xbox One and PC (and on PS5 and Xbox Series through backward compatibility). Online play is included with RDR2, and standalone Red Dead Online costs $17.99 on the US PlayStation Store. On consoles you need PS Plus or Game Pass Core/Ultimate; on PC you do not.

The upside: the economy is stable, prices do not change, and bonus weeks make the grind noticeably faster.

• Dollars (RDO$) — from missions, deliveries and selling pelts and collections. You spend them on weapons, horses and clothing.
• Gold — bars and nuggets; 100 nuggets = 1 bar. Gold buys roles, some upgrades and items before you reach the required rank. Gold comes from roles, daily challenges, Telegram missions and events; Rockstar also sells it for real money.

The main strategy for a new player is to spend the first bars on a role that then returns both dollars and gold.

These are regular prices without discounts; Rockstar regularly cuts them during events. For example, in November 2026 the Butcher's Table is 5 gold bars off.

Trader is the most common advice for new players. Cripps turns your carcasses and pelts into goods, and you haul them out by wagon. Delivery numbers:

Distant deliveries pay more, but other players can attack your wagon, so full wagons are best hauled in quiet sessions. Posse members get a share of the leader's payout during a delivery.

Moonshiner unlocks once you already have the Trader role: reach rank 5, complete a delivery or pay 5 gold bars in the progression menu. Then you buy the Moonshine Shack for 25 gold bars. Weak moonshine is cheap; stronger and flavored batches sell for noticeably more but take longer to brew.

Collector suits solo play: collectibles (cards, coins, jewelry, flowers, eggs and more) are scattered around the world, and Madam Nazar pays more for a complete set than for individual items.

Bounty Hunter is about catching wanted outlaws from posters at sheriff's offices. Besides regular bounties there are legendary ones — tougher targets with bigger payouts. Outlaws pay differently dead or alive, so read the poster terms carefully.

Naturalist is a peaceful role: you tranquilize an animal with sedative ammo, take a sample and sell samples to Harriet. The pelts of the same animals can also be harvested for Gus — but that is poaching.

• Telegram missions — standalone solo jobs picked up from letters at the post office. There are harder Hardcore versions without enemy markers or aim assist. The four newest, Strange Tales of the West (July 2025), start with a letter from Theodore Levin at the post office or in the camp mailbox.
• Blood Money — criminal contracts (Crimes) and Opportunities that pay a special currency, Capitale, which unlocks new options and rewards. You can start with strangers marked Blood Money.
• Daily challenges — short goals for general play and roles that give gold and XP. The easiest source of gold with no spending.
• Treasure maps — rewards for ranks and cleared gang hideouts: a bit of money and gold.

Rockstar announces a bonus event every month, and that is when farming pays best. The November Trader event runs from November 3 to 30, 2026, according to Rockstar Newswire:

Tip: in November, Trader pays best — sales give 3X and perfect pelts give double materials. On the side, hunt turkeys: the Butcher pays 10X for them. The October Halloween event ended on November 2. In general, keep your roles leveled up, and in a bonus month play the activity that has the multiplier.

Searches for an RDO "money glitch" never go away, but any glitches, mod menus and mods in online play put your account at risk of a ban. RDR2 story cheats do not work in Red Dead Online at all. That is why we do not publish or recommend ways to "farm" money with exploits.
